To trim or not to trim? Also what is a good shampoo and conditioner with PROTEIN?

I'm in the process of growing out my hair after having box permed and dyeing it about a year ago. Right now, it's about shoulder-length, 4 inches or so of processed/damaged hair and 4 inches at the root of virgin/healthy hair. (I permed and coloured it when it was afro puff-length, i know i was stupid!) I'm half black half asian and I have ALOT of hair (bushy) but it's very fine. I wanna grow out my hair a bit more before I trim it cuz i really want hair to mid-back. Is that a good idea or should i trim it right away? I'm starting to take really good care of my ends, moisturize, etc. Also i heard PROTEIN-based products are really good for repairing damage. What are some really good ones for african/american type hair?To trim or not to trim? Also what is a good shampoo and conditioner with PROTEIN?
You should get a trim every 6 weeks, no matter what. It is the only way to fix your problem. Now, you should really go ahead and get all the damage cut off, but if you really aren't ready to do that, insist to your stylist that you just want a trim (because they will want to cut off all the damage). In the mean time be sure to use a protective spray or serum on your hair before you use any sort of heat styling on you hair. As for products with protein- Frederic Fekkai has a line called Protein Rx. They are pricey, but smell wonderful and do the trick. You can get them at Sephora. Another suggestion is Pureology conditioner for color treated hair. The conditioner is amazing. Your whole head actually tingles when you put it on! Keep it on for a few minutes each time you shower and then rinse. I have never found anything like it!! AMAZING. It smells like peppermint. This is also very pricey but totally worth it!!! You can get this in most salons and actually, some Target's are carrying it now. Stay away from Pantene, and similar products. They are full of wax and will not heal the hair.To trim or not to trim?
